Waffen SS Oberscharführer Artillery Wrapper

A M44 Waffen-SS Feldbluse für SS-Oberscharführer Artillerie. It is constructed out of a field gray wool and grey silk twill weave inseam. The tunic has a large collar and no pockets. There are four award loops to the left breast pocket. A vaulted 1st Class Iron Cross by 65 (Klein & Quenzer A.G., Idar-Oberstein) is attached to one. The front vertical closure has eight (four large and four small) stitched on zinc-alloy buttons to the right chest. The sleeves have two black stitched adjustment button holes that have a zinc-alloy stitched on button. The large collar features two stitched on third patterns SS Oberscharführer Collar Tabs. They are both constructed out of a buckrahm base that are covered in a black wool. The one diplays two white SS runes the other has two silvered pips. The Oberscharführer rank shoulder boards are the slip-on type. They are constructed out of a black wool base with an aluminum pip and a stitched on aluminum bordered tress and bright red (Artillery) rayon covered string piping. The SS sleeve eagle is constructed out of white stitching attached to a black wool base that has been machine stitched to the tunic. The interior is partially lined in gray silk-rayon twill weave. There are two pockets. Just above the left pocket are black size markings. There is a 3x 3/14 inch rectangular patch to the lower right side. IMO it was period repaired. There are heavy mothing holes throughout. It is a small-medium size. A highly desirable stug wrapper! This piece was previously sold by Alan Beadle Antique Arms & Militaria and comes with a note stating: “It was one of a number of W-SS tunics, greatcoats, trousers & equipment that come out of the attic of a house in Detmold a few years back. It seem that the house has been used by the W-SS during 1945 fighting in the area, and the stuff had just been put away & forgotten about.”.
