Here we have a Cased example of a 3rd Pattern Fallschirmschützenabzeichen des Heer by C.E. Juncker of Berlin. This 3rd Pattern Army Paratrooper Badge was re-instated June 1st 1943 and was awarded to officers, NCOs and soldiers who successfully completed a parachute shooting training course. The authorization to carry was checked once a year and was dependent on at least 6 jumps per year. It is constructed out of two zinc based pieces that have been gold gilded / silver washed and finished in a brennlack coating. The oval shaped obverse depicts a silvered diving eagle above/surrounded by a gilded half laurel leaf and berry, half oak leaf and acorn wreath all below an army closed winged eagle that is clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The full back reverse correctly displays; a soldered on brass barrel hinge (steel hinge-pin), a soldered on steel round plate flatwire catch, a steel round wire pin and two brass dome rivets. The gilding, silvering and detail are all in beautiful condition! It measures approximately 2 1/8 inches tall by 1 11/16 of an inch wide. It comes housed in its appropriate red case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leather (Lederimitat). To the front is a gilded round steel, spring loaded closure button. To the back is gilded steel, staggered, piano hinge. To the very top is the gilded Gothic style script: “Fallschirmschützen = Abzeichen”. The bottom interior of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a red fibrous felt material that outlines the pin, hinge and catch assembly. The interior top is constructed out of a red/maroon silk material and has an underlying pad. The interior-base has wear marks to the edges. The exterior shows minor scuffs and wear. The case measures approximately 3 1/4 inches long, 3 inches wide and deep and 1 1/16 of an inch thick. A very rare and desirable assembly!
