Here we have a Very Rare Model 1933 SA Dagger (Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch) by Ernst Dirlam of Solingen. This one rates 10 out of 10 on McSaars SA rarity rating. The blade on this one is ok. The crisp acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and “Hoffnungswerk Ernst Dirlam Solingen” manufacturer’s mark are both nicely executed! The fit is nice and tight and the crossgrain is easily visible through the majority of the blade. The blade rates an Exc+. The tip is approximately 3mm’s short and has been re-shaped. There is heavy age grey and minor surface scratches throughout. The steel based brown anodized scabbard looks great. It shows oxidization spotting throughout. It remains completely dent free. The solid nickel silver scabbard fittings look great! The ball has a few bruises and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The crossguards match the scabbard fittings in wear, color and patina. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped “Wf” (Westfalen). The grip / crossguard fits are perfect. The brown hardwood grip looks good. It has a rectangular toning mark to the reverse, likely where someone put some tape on it. There are four minor cracks and a chip to the obverse. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 90%+ of its enamel. A very rare maker mark… You will have a tough time finding another!
