A nice looking RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) Membership Stickpin here! A six (or nine - military) months conscription within the RAD was compulsory for all German citizen aged 19-25. Upon completion of service, the member would be given a lapel membership commemorative pin. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been silver washed and contains red, white and black enamel work. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed RAD emblem, which consists of: a mobile swastika in front of a spade shovel head and is above two outward pointing wheat sheaths, which all lies on a white background and is surrounded a red pebbled border. The full back reverse is maker marked "BSW" (Bruder Schneider A.G. - Wien) and also has the "RADJ" (within a downward pointing triangle). It also has a soldered on tombak round plate and knurled stickpin to the back. The face measures approximately 5/8 of an inch wide by 7/8 of an inch tall. The enamel work is wonderful 99%+ intact! A great inexpensive item to go along nicely with your RAD collection!
