A nice looking piece! The early thin mottoed blade on this one looks great. The acid etched "Blut und Ehre!" motto, "F.W. Backhaus Solingen"/"Ges. Geschützt" maker mark are all crisp and beautifully executed! The tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates a Exc++. It has a very loose fit and shows the common age grey/surface scratches throughout. The original leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks great! It remains completely dent free and holds 75%+ of its original paint coverage. The brown scabbard leather remains in nice condition! It shows some age cracking/crazing. All of its steel based, brown enamel painted, rivets are intact and the button continues to work very well! The steel based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 98%+ of its plated finish. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in great shape. There is a small hairline crack towards the crossguard to rivet. Both nickel-silver rivets remain intact. The HJ diamond retains 99%+ of its enamel! An excellent early motted piece that would fit nicely in your collection!
