Here we have a Silver DRL Sports Badge (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen - German National Union for Physical Training). The silver grade DRL badge was awarded to men and women between the ages of 18-32 who passed the national fitness test for a total of eight years or individuals between the ages of 32-40 who passed the fitness test during a 12 month period. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed and burnished. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed “DRL” in stylized letters which is surrounded by an oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon and swastika. The reverse correctly displays a; soldered block hinge, soldered rectangular wire catch and flat wire pin. It is also marked “DRGM 35269” and “Wernstein Jena”. It continues to retain beautiful detail! It measures approximately 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall. A rarer piece!
