The Order of St. John Serving Sister Breast Badge with Miniatures

A nice little three piece set! The Order is a major international charity providing medical care, first aid and support in more than 40 countries worldwide and focusing especially on those in poverty. The multi-piece badge is constructed out of die struck brass base that has been plated and contains black and white enamel work. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed white Maltese style cross, with two lions (passant-guardant) and two unicorns (passant) to the corners, above a round black enamel base that is surrounded by a thick silver colored border. The reverse features a silver color backing with two holes. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring. Attached to the ring is a black bow tie ribbon and, to the back, a stitched on pin, hinge catch assembly. The enamel work looks great 99%+ intact. Nice patina to the boarder as well! It measures approximately 1 7/16 inches in diameter. Accompanying the award are two St John Ambulance Miniatures Fob Medals. They are die stamped nickel/bronze based and bronze/silver washed. The obverses feature a centrally placed Maltese style cross, with two lions (passant-guardant) and two unicorns (passant) to the corners, surrounded by “The St. John Ambulance Association” and four flowers above three leaf clover design. The reverses are etched reading: “433696 Horace W MacKay” and stamped “Registered at St. Johns Gate London”. To the top is an integral loop and attached ring. Nice pieces! A great little set!
