A great looking piece! The blade on this one looks great! The acid etched "Alles für Deutschland" motto and "F. W. Backhaus Solingen" maker mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed! The crossgrain is easily visible all the way from the hilt to the tip. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a sharp point! This blade rates a solid Exc++! It shows the commonly seen age grey/spotting and surface scratches throughout. The steel based, brown anodized scabbard looks beautiful! It only shows minor spidering /surface marks throughout, yet it retains a wonderful brown finish and remains completely dent free! The solid nickel scabbard fittings look excellent! The ball has one wee bruise yet it retains its round shape. All four screws remain tightly intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The reverse of the lower crossguard is marked "BO" (Bayerische Ostmark). The brown hardwood grip looks excellent. It shows the common pressure marks throughout along with one we hairline crack to the right of the roundel, but that's it! No chips or flakes! The solid nickel eagle retains beautiful details and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel has a perfect fit and retains 99%+ of its enamel. An excellent early SA dagger!
