A beautiful looking piece here! This piece was previously purchased from Tom Whittmann so I will just use his description: "The crossguards of this example are the nickel variety. They have good smooth surfaces throughout, precise accent grooves and sharp edges. These guards are internally marked, "P.A.". The reverse lower guard is Gau-stamped, "Ho". The stamping is well over to the right of center, and is hit up-side-down; a usual for this Gau stamper. The grip is a quite beautiful red mahogany type. It has appealing subtle vertically running grain throughout, and is in near perfect condition. The contour ridges are the medium style and the grip absolutely fits the guards like a rubber glove. (Minor flaking towards the eagles wings). The nickel eagle is a "point behind the head" variety, showing some mild wear to the breast feathering and to the head area. Fine hilt here. The scabbard shell is straight throughout. It has all of the anodizing in the surfaces and shows only mild age. There is also lots of original lacquer throughout this scabbard shell, showing wear only from hand holding - nice shell here. The nickel scabbard fittings are in excellent condition. The lower ball has a mild shot, but it is not too bad and really does not show from the front. The amounts are retained with original unbuggered screws. The blade is a choice mirror-bright example. It retains all of its cross graining. The SA motto etch is crisp, and has very dark backgrounding, rating at 100%. This blade is in a full mint state - nice. (I would rate it NM). The reverse ricasso is matching etched with the firm's name having letters which form an arch shape at the center bottom, "Romuso". The location of "Solingen-Merscheid" are upward shaped in an arch. The blade shoulders perfectly fit the lower crossguard. Fine dagger. A semi-difficult maker to find. Excellent Plus, Plus.".
