A beautiful Panzer issued Kuban Campaign Arm Shield by Karl Wurster! The Kuban Shield was awarded to those who fought to preserve the bridgeheads in the Kuban region from February 1943 until they were abandoned in October. It is constructed out of die stamped bronze sheet metal base that has been bronze washed (with burnished highlights) and attached with steel prongs to a bronzed plate hidden by black wool and a black leather backing. The obverse depicts an open winged national eagle clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, surrounded by "1943" (19 - left, 43 - right) and above a bannered "Kuban" and a jagged rectangular line separating "Krymskaja" (left), "Lagunen" (top-right) and "Novorossiysk" (bottom-right). This is all in a shield type outline that is surrounded by a quality black wool backing. The reverse shows 95% of its leather backing along with stitching holes to the exterior. It measures approximately 2 13/16 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide. An excellent rare example!
