A Beautiful - Model 1933 Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by Gebr. Heller of Schmalkalden. The blade on this one looks wonderful. The textbook acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and the “Gebr. Heller Schmalkalden” maker mark are both beautifully executed. The crossgrain is stunning and easily visible as you shine it in the light. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Mint-. It shows typical runner marks. The sheet metal based brown anodized scabbard looks excellent. There are two wee pressure marks and two areas of spidering. The solid nickel silver scabbard fittings look wonderful. The ball remains perfectly round. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is near perfect and closes with a snap. The crossguards match the scabbard fittings perfectly. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped “Sa” (Sachsen). The “blonde” fully lacquered hardwood grip looks excellent! According to the 1938 SA handbook it recommends: “… care for the wooden handle with varnish.”-clearly the original owner cared enough to do this, which left the eagle and roundel with a golden hue. There is a minor crack above the roundel and to the reverse. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 99%+ of its enamel. A wonderful example!
