It's the second time we've owned this one and we are pleased to have it back! The bright blade on this one looks wonderful! The dark and crisp acid etched "Alles fur Deutschland" motto and "Wilh. Kober & Co. Suhl Gegr. 1874" maker mark are both beautifully executed! The crossgrain is stunning as you shine it in the light! The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point! The blade rates an easy NM. It shows the common surface scratches and a wee bit of spotting throughout but that's it! The steel based, black re-painted scabbard body looks good! It shows minor age spotting and crazing throughout along with the odd pressure mark yet has 99% paint coverage. The solid nickel scabbard fittings also show the odd bump and look to have been cleaned at some point. The ball has a flat bottom and all four screws remain intact. The crossguards look excellent! The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau marked "Th" (Thuringen). The brown grained wood grip looks excellent! It retains about 90% of its original factory laquer! There is one wee pressure mark to the back yet no chips, cracks or flakes! The grip / crossguard fits are near perfect! The solid nickel eagle has a perfect fit and is beautiful detailed! The SA roundel has a perfect fit and retains 99% of its enamel behind a worn lacquered coating. A very nice example buy a desirable maker!
