The 3rd Class Award is a two piece die struck construction that has been fire gilded and finished with black and white chip & crack-free enamel work. The obverse features a separately applied, black and gold outlined, closed winged, national eagle with a gold wreathed black mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is above a white square cross that is bordered in gold. The reverse shows a gold square cross. The detail, fire gilt and enamel work are just beautiful! Attached to the top is a soldered loop and ring. This piece also comes with a bow ties ribbon. The ribbon is faded but other than that in great shape. The case is made of wood and pressed cardboard, with a simulated, grained, red leather covering. To the front is a spring loaded, closure button. To the back is a magnetic, staggered, internal bar hinge. Both function well. The interior of the top lid of the case is lined in a blue satin and has an underlying pad. The top also has a separate belt which has "Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege 3. Stufe" (Honor for German people care third stage) in gilt. The bottom interior of the case is made of a blue felt material that outlines the award. The case is in excellent condition! A complete piece just right for your collection!
