Here we have a great example of a private purchase 2nd Class Iron Cross by L/58! It is a multi-piece, die struck construction that has been soldered together. The single piece core is constructed out of a steel sheet metal base that has been black enamel painted. The two piece frame is constructed out of a nickel silver base that has been silver washed. The obverse features; a pattée style cross that has a centrally placed embossed mobile swastika and an embossed "1939" / "1813" (reverse) date to the lower arm, which is all on a black base and surrounded by a silvered ribbed/beaded row and a flat outlying border. To the top is a soldered loop and maker marked ring that reads: "L/58" (Rudolf Souval, Wein). The ring holds a long 11 1/4 inches red, white and black rayon ribbon. The border has nicely aged and patinaed with time. The paint looks to be 90% intact. Hard to find an LDO marked piece!
