90% green and traces of red sprayed camouflage finish over factory field grey with traces of a once present wire. Luftwaffe decal remains 75% intact. Four early, first pattern, vented, steel, spanner bolts. M38 tan leather liner with a central stitched seam, twelve circular ventilation holes and black rubber padding to the helmet band and the interior crown is well marked with black ink stamped sizing, "Kopfweite Gr. 58 Stahlhaube Gr. 68" . Lining also has additional black ink stamps that include the designers name and location, and the manufacturers name and location. The reverse, interior, apron is stamped with the lot number "842" and the left, interior side apron is stamped with the manufacturer’s code and size, "ET68", indicating manufacture by Eisen-und Huttenwerke, AG Thale/Harz, (Iron and Foundry Works), size 68. Helmet is complete with a blue/grey leather construction, dual "Y" pattern chin harness. The chin harness is fully intact and the leather is still quite supple. This was purchased from the veteran in a hotel buy in Michigan. It comes with a Certificate of Autenticity from Ken Niewiarowicz. Never been in a Collection!
