Oberstleutnant Hermann von Borries Formal award document with folder to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross of 1939. Large, double-paged parchment document with calligraphic text and national eagle dated 03 May 1942, the name of Hermann von Borries rendered in hand-executed gold lettering, beneath which is the ink facsimile signature of Adolf Hitler. Document dimensions are 43.2 x 34.7 cm. The award folder in red leather with a gold-embossed eagle on the front, the inside with gold-embossed decorative edging lines and parchment inserts. Centered on the lower edge of the rear inside cover is the stamp in gold of "Frieda Thiersch". Folder dimensions are 45 x 36 cm. Hermann von Borries (13 October 1899 / 16 February 1943) was a highly decorated Oberstleutnant in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on May 3rd 1942 to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Hermann von Borries died in hospital at Porchow on 16 February 1943. This piece was Veteran purchased in detroit and is featured in Johnson's War Booty book.
