Here we have an early SA dagger by Rob. Giersch. This maker is rare and rates 7 out of 10 on McSaars SA rarity list. It seems rarer than that, as I haven't come across one in quite a white. The blade on this one looks excellent. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfectly sharp point. The acid etched "Alles fur Deutschland" motto and ?Rob. Giersch Solingen? maker mark are beautifully executed! Nice crossgrain remains throughout. The blade rates NM! It has minor spotting and surface scratches throughout. The brown anodized scabbard looks excellent and retains some of its original lacquer! It has one wee pressure mark. The solid nickel scabbard fittings and crossguards are in excellent condition and match in color and wear. The ball has two wee bumps and continues to retain its original round shape. All four screws remain intact! The scabbard / crossguard fit is near perfect and closes with a snap! The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped "Wm" (Westmark). The grip / crossguard fits are perfect! The brown hardwood grip has chipping and pressure marks to all of its edges. It looks as though the previous owner has cleaned it up a bit with shoe polish but he did a good job. There are no cracks/splits. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 99% of its enamel. Overall, it's a nice example all around!
