Early Large Oval SS Dagger by Carl Eickhorn

Picked this piece up from the vet! The blade on this one looks decent. The dark acid etched ?Meine Ehere Heisst Treue? motto and ?Carl Eickhorn C.E. Solingen? maker mark are both beautifully executed. Some of the crossgrain remains visible. The tip is perfect, as is the fit! The blade rates Exc/Exc+. It shows age greying, spotting and staining throughout along with several wee hits to the edges. The scabbard has been period repainted black and that's the way I got it from the veteran. It has several scratch marks and a small pressure mark to the back. It has 100% paint coverage and bleeds over the fittings in some areas. Both solid nickel scabbard fittings look good. The ball retains a nice round shape, with just a wee pressure mark. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and the patina from the scabbard fittings to crossguards match, verifying that these pieces are original to each other. The solid nickel crossguards look great! The reverse of the lower crossguard is marked "I" (Munich) and it's also bench marked as we see on many early Eick's. I had the grip professionally restored, as it had a large chip out of it. The solid nickel eagle is the correct hi neck version Eick. Used on their early daggers. The SS runes retain 100% of their enamel. A good veteran pick up!
