Exploring the Dress Daggers and Swords of the German
SS
Quite simply the best reference book available
on the subject. I am offering this new book with the order of
any dagger at my cost. Why am I doing this? Quite simply because I
believe that knowledgeable customers will keep coming back to buy from me.
I also consider educated collectors an asset to the hobby in general.
With a dagger order $105 The book
alone $120+$20shipping

HIM-9 Himmler Honor Dagger
Here is likely the most desirable of
all SS pieces! Hold it in your hand and history comes alive! This one was
returned is 1945 to South Carolina by a Captain in the Signal Corps. It
was passed on to his son who recently sold it to me. Blade is a Exc++ example with fine crossgrain. I like this one cause
the etch still retains that nice dark etch that really jumps out at you. There is a bit of age likely from old finger
prints, the very worse of which is towards
the tip of the reverse. No cleaning, repointing, or sharpening, just
normal light runner marks. The smooth tail Eickhorn maker mark is exactly
as it should be. Blade to crossguard fit is excellent. Original crossguards
are solid nickel and perfectly fit. The lower crossguard is bench marked as
most are. I got this grip badly chipped so after some
careful consideration I decided to have it professionally restored. As
always when I do this stuff I fully disclose it. I include a link here for
you to see the before
pics. These
early Eickhorns are notorious for chipping as the wood does not give at
all, it just chips. I cringe when I see guys reef on the nut after taking
one apart. Especially with an SS dagger, always give the wood a bit of
room to move. There is still some flakes at the lower crossguard. Nickel eagle is lightly worn and
properly inlaid. The runes retain 100% of enamel. Scabbard is awesome!
99% of
anodized finish is intact as well there is evidence of original lacquer!
The scabbard body itself is undented. The ball does have a small bruise
to the reverse
but retains its original shape. Ok so if you can live with a grip
repair you have yourself a great buy on a great dagger. Exc+/Exc++

 SS-202 Himmler Honour Dagger
with Early Chained Scabbard Another Vet purchased dagger.
Picked this one up from the Vet's son in a tiny town, Chardon Ohio. Other
than remove some old cosmoline it is exactly as I received it. It's never
been cleaned or taken apart or messed with in any way. It definitely was
worth the drive!! Blade is a good example
with perfect crossgrain. There's some stains on the blade that
are worse towards the tip, I would guess that this was put back in the
scabbard with some moisture on it at some point. I'm tempted to clean it
with some semichrome but I leave this to you if you so wish. There
is no pitting, sharpening or retipping. Motto is nice and crisp.
All the etching is equal in color and depth. The blade rates
Exc+/Exc++. It is has excellent fits all around. The scabbard is the
most desirable early painted type with solid nickel fittings. No plating
here. About 90%+ of original paint is intact. The fittings
show light period wear. The chain
has some connectors that show twisting
and one of the connectors has been period replaced as it's steel. I have provided
excellent pics to show all this.
It's not a big deal and we often see this on these type II
chains. Witty speaks to this in his book available
above. The chain is correctly proofed to the reverse. Excellent detail
as you would expect. Nice burnishing as well. The
ball maintains it's original shape but it does have
some minor bruises to the bottom. I of course have provided
you with the worse views I can. The fittings are nickel-silver retaining all their
screws. Solid hardwood grip is in fine shape being chip and crack-free. Eagle is perfectly fit with a some
patina. Roundel retains 97%+ of enamel with a wee chip beside the outside
circle, you will need an eye-loop to find this. The handle shoulders
and radii nicely fit the solid nickel hand chased guards. All the patina matches
everywhere. All the fits are there! Finally, I know someone will ask so I
was answer it right here. "So how do you get
a Himmler honour dagger
in a chained scabbard?". Quite
simply, when the guy got his chained scabbard in 1936
he chose to wear his Himmler dagger with it. This is not the
only example that has been Veteran purchased this way and I'm sure
not the last. This is one
of the coolest daggers I have ever owned. It
just screams authentic! An awesome combination and certainly destined to be the highlight on any
collection. Overall Exc+/Exc++

SS-222 Type I Chained SS
From an old collection here's a
fine example of a nice Type I. The unmarked
blade is a good example that has some fingerprint stains and and all the
crossgrain remains! Perfect point and a textbook motto. I rate
this blade an Exc+. The hilt fittings are all nickel plated showing
some wear and plating loss from honest use. They are well fit. The handle fits up to the guards nicely.
All the angles are correct. The wood is in good shape with no chips or
cracks! The eagle is the solid nickel version and the runes have 100%
of enamel. The dent -free scabbard features
original anodized finish with 100% of the anodizing intact and 75%+ of the
factory lacquer!! The
ball is undented. All the fittings are nickel plated with
some loss of the finish to the lower reverse fitting and the top of the
clip. Yes, I could clean this up with some semi-chrome but I don't. This
is exactly how these exhibit use when they were worn. The
chain is a textbook type I. The details are all there, right down to the individual teeth.
The correct first upper link is SS marked. All the connectors
are original. The inside of the cloverleaf is correctly DRGM marked. Overall Exc+/Exc++
$6995

SS-209 Type II Chained SS
One of the most difficult of all 3rd Reich pieces to find, this example
came in with a large collection of SS daggers I just purchased. The unmarked
blade is a bright example that has been cleaned up but has nice
crossgrain throughout. Perfect point and a clear motto. I rate
this blade an easy Exc++. The hilt fittings are all solid
nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards nicely.
All the angles are correct. The wood is in good shape with a bit of
flaking and a hair liner to the reverse that I have blown up to the
extreme. The eagle is a nickel version and the runes have 100%
of enamel. The scabbard is a professional repaint that is
perfect. The paint is the correct lacquer that
is 100% intact. If you look close there are a few
fine scratches that you can find from where the center ramp fitting was slid back
on. I know some semichrome with take these out if you so desire. The
ball is near perfect. All the fittings are early nickel. The
chain is a the most difficult type to find being an early Type II.
Look at the burnish!!! I think this is the nicest chain assembly I've ever
owned. The details are all there, right down to the individual teeth.
The correct first upper link is SS marked. All the connectors
are original. A beauty textbook chained
SS. Overall Exc++
$8795

SS-219 Type II Chained SS
Here's one that was hidden away
for years and recently purchased from a Texas family. The unmarked
blade is a good example that has some fingerprint stains and has been cleaned
at some point. Perfect point and a textbook motto. I rate
this blade an Exc/Exc+. The hilt fittings are all solid
nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards nicely.
All the angles are correct. The wood is in good shape with a single flake
to the right of the runes and a hairline to the reverse. The eagle is a nickel version and the runes have 100%
of enamel. It's never been apart. The scabbard features
original paint that is retained at 97%+ with just a few scratches from
where the chain has rubbed. The
ball is near perfect. All the fittings are early nickel with
some old scratches to the bottom. The
chain is a the most difficult type to find being an early Type II
with real nice burnish. The details are all there, right down to the individual teeth.
The correct first upper link is SS marked. The top connector has
been replaced at some point, from the looks of it it's a period fix. as
many of you well know the connectors are the weakest point on these type
II assemblies and we often seen them broken or replaced. This is likely
why the later type I chains use much more sturdy connectors. A very
reasonably priced chained
SS with the most desirable type chain. Overall Exc+

SS-216 Serialized
Ground Röhm Böker SS
Here's a nice original dagger
from the Veteran's family. Completely textbook Böker that has been factory
ground. Blade has grey throughout and has been heavily cleaned. The result
is some fine scratches that you can see if you hold the blade just so in
the light. Sounds bad it's really not and I have provided you with the
worse views possible. Motto and maker mark show good burnish. Only about
80% of the small oval Böker mark remains as the top was removed at the
factory when reground. Perfect point certainly Exc.
Ok guys, if you are still reading this is the part that gets good. The nickel-silver fittings are all well fit as one expects to see on
these early quality pieces. Look at those fits!!! All the angles and
radii are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "I". It's hidden in
the serialization but if you look hard at the close-ups provided it's
there! The lower crossguard is marked "12375". I looked up the number
in Bernie's excellent reference "The Key" and the guy was not an officer
however with all the new serial numbers becoming available perhaps in the
future this one might be too! The grip is a nice heavy crack and
chip-free example. Now I say chip free but there is some flaking next
to the crossguards, minor but there. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the
runes have 100% of enamel. The anodized scabbard fits the dagger perfect
and all the patina matches nicely. The scabbard has some
oxidation. There is an impression in the sides of the scabbard you can
feel with your fingers but you will have to hold the scabbard up to the
light and look down it to actually see them! The ball has a small bump but
is nearly perfect. All the screws are all intact. It all fits perfectly. All the patina matches, never
been apart! Now for you guys who appreciate the history of this
stuff, the guy's belt and buckle came in with this dagger. It is available
in the Buckle section while it lasts.... Overall Exc+

 SS-210 Serialized Jacobs
SS Rare as hen's
teeth! Out of an old collection I just purchased. The blade
has been cleaned along the way removing much of the crossgrain. The etch
is crisp but lightened somewhat. The elusive Jacobs was one of only 2
makers to use an exclamation point at the end of the motto. There are
some stains to the blade and roughness toward the tip. Rates
Exc These guards are solid nickel the lower is not district
stamped, same as the example Wittmann shows in his reference pg
22. Under the crossguard it is engraved, "269418". This is the
original owner's SS Serial number. The grip
is in good shape being free of chips and having a hairline at the top
crossguard. There is some period
wear, small hits and evidence of wear but not abuse. The nickel
grip eagle is well fit. The runes are just fine. The grip fits the
crossguards well. The scabbard has and anodized finish with some
minor bruises and evidence of wear. All the screws intact and
unturned. The ball has a bump to the
bottom. It
fits perfectly with a nice snap. Nicely finishing the dagger is an
original pre-RZM style vertical hanger and belt loop. No it's not mint,
but it's rare to find a Jacobs in any condition. Exc+
$6295
SS-200 Eickhorn Ground Rohm SS
An other "virgin" never been apart dagger. Blade shows minor age
in the form of some light age grey. Motto and maker mark show a nice
dark contrast to the blade. The motto is crisp grey and the small oval
smooth-tail maker mark has been partially lost at the factory when they
removed the Rohm inscription. Perfect point with no
sharpening. Good crossgrain remains. Exc++. The hand
chased fittings are all nickel and well fit. The handle fits up
to the guards perfectly. All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is
properly marked "I". The grip is a nice heavy crack and chip-free
example. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the runes have
100% of enamel. The scabbard fits the dagger perfect and all
the patina matches. The dent-free scabbard has a nice anodized
finish. The ball has a minor hit. All the screws are all
intact. The fittings themselves are nickel silver with patina
matching the crossguards. It all fits perfectly. included is beauty
Assmann RZM vertical hanger that has never been removed. Overall

 SS-194 Early Eickhorn SS
It’s
very tough to buy unmessed with SS daggers. I have passed on many more
than I have purchased. Here’s one that I managed to buy from a dear
friend. It came several months ago from a Florida Vet. It’s never been
taken down and is exactly as it was purchased. Blade shows minor age in
the form of some light age gray and I know it’s been cleaned along the
way. Motto and maker mark are nice and crisp. Perfect point with no
sharpening. Good crossgrain remains. Exc+. The fittings are all hand
chased solid nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards
perfectly. All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked
“I”. Peek under the lower crossguard and you will see a benchmark “5”. No,
not required but always a treat to find. The grip is a nice crack free
example with just a wee flake to the lower left obverse. The eagle is a
correct nickel version and the runes have 100% of enamel. The scabbard
fits the dagger perfectly and all the patina matches. The period repainted
scabbard has some small crapes and evidence of light wear. The ball has a
good hit, the screws are all intact. The fittings themselves are nickel
silver. It all fits perfectly. Finally included is a pre-RZM vertical
hanger, exactly what you would expect to see with this dagger. This large
oval Eickhorn maker mark was only used for a very short time during
initial production. If you take this off it will NOT be RZM marked. I
didn’t remove it but I know because it’s not a standardized RZM version.
Finally if you look at the back of the grip you can see marks where this
hanger has rubbed in normal period wear. Oh, I do so love these small
details!! Overall conservatively Exc+

SS-220
Ground Röhm Herder SS
Nice Herder that has been
factory reground to remove the Rohm inscription. Blade is very nice with a
dark motto and just a dark spot between the motto and the crossguard. I have provided you with the
worse views possible. Perfect point certainly Exc+/Exc++.
The nickel-silver fittings are all well fit as one expects to see on
these early pieces. All the angles and
radii are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "I". The slim
Herder grip is a nice crack and
chip-free example. Now I say chip free but there is some wear and
marks from honest use. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the
runes have 100% of enamel. The anodized scabbard fits the dagger perfect. The scabbard has some
oxidation scratches and rubs. I'm sure this had a vertical hanger on it at
some point but that, is lost to time. I was temped to clean up the
oxidation and wax it but this I leave to you. The ball has some small bumps but
is nearly perfect. All the screws are intact. It all fits perfectly. Overall Exc+

SS-215 Early Hammesfahr SS
Very tough to buy unmessed with SS daggers. I have as of late passing on many
more than I buy. Here's one that I managed to buy from a Vet's family in
Mi., never been taken down
and is exactly as it was purchased. Blade shows minor age in the
form of some light grey age spots. Motto
and maker mark are nice and crisp. Perfect point with no
sharpening. All crossgrain remains. Exc+/Exc++.
The fittings are all solid nickel and well
fit. The handle fits up to the guards perfectly. All the angles are
correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "III". The grip is a nice crack free example
with just the normal hairline running up from the roundel. The eagle is a
correct nickel version again perfectly fit with not even the tiniest flake
around it!! The runes have 100% of enamel.
The scabbard fits the dagger perfect and all the patina
matches. The anodized scabbard has some small scrapes and
evidence of wear. The ball has a hit, the screws are all
intact. The fittings themselves are nickel silver to include the
virgin nut. It all fits
perfectly. Lots of green guck,( verdigris for the more technical among
you) that so many love to see. Finally included is an Assmann vertical hanger. Exactly what
you would expect to see with this dagger. Sorry guys I don't take these
down and take them all apart to show you pics. I know these Assmann
hangers well, trust me I don't even have to check I know it's RZM marked
in the leather. This hanger has been there forever and this is evidenced
by the wear of the scabbard finish. Oh, one other thing. The strap on this
has NOT be replaced, the top coat of black has sorta flaked off. Odd but
such things happen, if you look close you can see remnants of the original
black. If it bothers you some black shoe polish might be in order, but I
think the hanger adds a bit of personality! Finally
if you look at the back of the grip you can see marks where this hanger
has rubbed in normal period wear. Oh, I do so love these small
details!! Overall conservatively Exc+/Exc++
$4250 Layaway(mark)

SS-184 RZM 7/29 Klittermann &
Moog SS
A very tough variant to find. The motto followed with the
exclamation mark has always been prized by collectors. To date I've never
heard why the motto followed by an exclamation is found on daggers made
by a few makers. Who knows perhaps someday we will know? Blade shows
evidence of cleaning and wear particularly to the spine area where the
etch is thinned. Some minor grey remains as well as traces of
crossgrain. Motto and maker mark are crisply executed. Perfect
point with no sharpening. Exc/Exc+. The fittings are all
nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards perfectly.
All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is not district marked nor
are any of these 7/29's. The grip shows evidence of a chip repair to
the upper left crossguard fit next to the runes. The reverse top left
corner also shows evidence of a chip repair. I suspect that the chip here
was just glued back into place. The eagle is a correct nickel version
and the runes have 100% of enamel. The scabbard fits the dagger
nicely and all the patina matches. The dent-free scabbard finish is
factory painted with some evidence of use with scratches and some minor
chips. The ball has a minor hit. The fittings themselves are
nickel silver with all the screws intact. Overall Exc+
