RLB

RLB-34 Paul Weyersberg 1st  Model RLB Leader

Wow try and find one of these! This is an excellent dagger that I'm pleased to bring to the collector market. Maker marked bright blade is Mint‑ with all the crossgrain intact. The tip is perfect. The maker mark is perfectly executed. Original buffer pad is intact. Early nickel hilt fittings are beautifully executed and in fine shape with all matching patina. Grip leather is 100% intact. with a properly pinned sunburst 1st model RLB insignia. Silver wash remains to the crevices. Like 90% of these first model insignia's there is some enamel loss to the letters. This enamel is so thin it just did not stand up. Someone has carefully restored some of the blue, you will need a high powered loop to find this. Really looks great. The grip leather is 100% intact showing some minor wear and marks. Lastly get that loop out and look at the end of the quillion and you will find a waffen approval stamp. Really nice to see. I would say that less than 20% of these will ever have one and testament to the early issue. Scabbard is an undented example with again excellent original leather intact. There are a few normal pressure marks as you would expect to see on real daggers. The early nickel scabbard fittings have nice matching patina. All the screws are intact and unturned. It all fits fine and comes with factory issued hanger. The best 1st model I've had in years! Overall NM

RLB-44 Weyersberg 1st  Model RLB EM

Purchased from my dear associate Tom Wittmann a couple years ago. Rather than redescribe, I'll let Tom do the talking:

RLBEM - 003 - 25647 - 1st Midel RLB Enlisted Man by Paul Weyersberg
This beautiful RLB E.M. dagger is an early example, and remains in top-notch condition. The dagger features all solid nickel hilt parts. The pommel is the derby-shape variety, that we associate with these daggers. This pommel shows no usage signs around the perimeter edge or the tip surfaces. The equator-like centre area, which is vaulted out, and still remains factory crisp. The matching crossguard is also a choice specimen. It features a stubby winged eagle, which looks to the right. This bird clutches a smooth wreath, with raised-out swastika. Behind the mobile swastika, is a stippled background. The quillons of this crossguard are line decorated on both sides. The ends of the crossguard are cut on an angle, to give the illusion of movement. A beautiful pommel and crossguard here! The ebony grip is also in very fine condition. The wood shows almost no usage, and is finely shaped to a handhold. It is more bulbous in the centre, and features an applied insignia. The insignia is that of the 1st Style RLB, which features the initial of this organization in the centre of a starburst, having blue enamel. Below the RLB enamelled initials, is a small blue enamel swastika. The enamelling appears to all be there - another sign of the outstanding conditions of this dagger. Additionally, the silvering to the starburst remains at 100%. The scabbard shell is straight throughout, and has perfect original black paint. This paint has great lustre, and looks like it was done yesterday. The small triangular hanger hardware is still attached to the built-in eyelet. The hanger itself is missing, and no doubt, was taken off by a previous owner. Because of the condition of this piece, it is doubtful that it would have worn off. At any rate, it has gone to time. The scabbard mounts are pristine examples, being a nickel-plated throat, and matching nickeled lower fitting. This lower fitting is in new-like condition. It is retained with two flush mount screws. The throat assembly is retained by an obverse mounted, centre placed, headless, flush screw. Like the outside of the piece, the blade is also in mint condition. This blade is nice and bright, and has all of its original crossgraining visible. It is a quality example, having good needle-like tip and crisp edges. This mint condition blade is etched on the reverse with the double oval logo of its producer. This logo traps the producer's name and location. "Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen". Inside is a downward pointing sword, resting between two wheat shafts. The original pebbled black leather blade buffer is in place. One of the best conditioned, 1st Model RLB E.M.'s, I have handled. Mint

Overall Exc++/NM (I tend to grade a bit more conservative than Tom)

RLB-45 Beauty 2nd  Model RLB Leader

An excellent example with a killer blade! The unmarked blade is Mint- showing just the lightest in/out marks, there is a wee small black spot 2" up from the obverse tip but that's it. Lots of crossgrain. The buffer is intact. Early silver washed nickel hilt fittings testify to the early construction on this one. The crossguard features the correct "cut-out" type swas. Grip leather is 100% intact with a properly pined sunburst swas. The enamel is close to perfect with just a bit if surface rubs to the center. The grip leather shows minor pressure marks from wear. Scabbard is an undented example with good original leather showing normal wear with 100% coverage. The scabbard fittings are patinaed to match the hilt.  All screws are intact. Overall Exc++/NM

RLB-43 Weyersberg 2nd  Model RLB EM

Blade is conservatively Exc+/Exc++ with nice crossgrain is intact. The Paul Weyersberg maker mark is clear, crisp and jet black. There is one area of age grey to the obverse 3" down from the crossguard that hold this back a bit. Scabbard features original glossy paint being retained at 99.9% with the odd scratch from period use. The lower fitting is solid nickel with unturned screws. The hilt fittings match the scabbard and are in good shape. The screw retaining the throat is again intact and unturned. The hardwood grip has some minor pressure marks to the reverse where someone tapped something with this. It is crack and chip-free with a nice 2nd model RLB insignia correctly pinned in place. The black enamel to swas is about 99%, The coverage of the swas is complete however there is some minor surface chipping to the center you will find with an eye loop if you care to go looking. The silver washed sunburst shows near 100% of the silver intact with just the lightest wear to the highlights. Included is a OLC/RZM marked hanger with excellent original leather and a solid nickel clip. A nice unmessed with example.
